Coalition Statement Re: WAR & PALESTINE

January 2024

The organizers of the Reclaim Pride Coalition, as proud, activist members of the queer community, state our unwavering support of the people of Palestine, as they endure genocidal military violence committed by the government of Israel and backed financially and militarily by the United States government.

Our commitment to justice extends to all oppressed peoples, and we believe that solidarity is not transactional. Our solidarity is rooted in the belief that the fight for equality is universal. We understand that societal and political landscapes differ, yet we emphasize that true solidarity is not contingent on the alignment of governmental stances when an entire population of people is being quite literally eradicated in front of us. In standing with the people of Palestine, we advocate for a world where all people live free from discrimination, oppression, and the threat of annihilation. As Audre Lorde said, “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”

We condemn all forms of terrorism, including the horrific attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023, as well as the societal destruction of Gaza, the genocidal military slaughter of tens of thousands of Gazans and the violent occupation and displacement in the West Bank being perpetrated by the Israeli government.  We demand that all the hostages be released: both those held by Hamas, and those taken and held without charge or trial by the government of Israel over the past many years.

As radical queers, we reject all attempts at pinkwashing by the corrupt Netanyahu government and its apologists and we hold space for the lived experiences of LGBTQ/TGNC Palestinians. With this understanding, Reclaim Pride joins in the global demand for an immediate, permanent ceasefire to the current conflict, and calls for an honest international effort to resolve this war.
