2024 Queer Liberation March Will

Fight For Queer Youth

Theme and March Route Announced

New York City

Tuesday, May 14, 2024

With queer youth and Black and Brown youth under attack from physical violence, masses of hateful legislation across the U.S. and relentless attempts to erase their existence and community histories, this year’s 6th Queer Liberation March on Sunday, June 30st at 11:30am will be:

The Queer Liberation March for Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Gender Nonconforming, and Nonbinary Youth, and Against War and Genocide

Reclaim Pride Coalition (RPC) also announced that the March will assemble in Sheridan Square, near the Stonewall Inn, and proceed south to Battery Park.

The Republican Party and their Project 2025 are planning an all-out federal assault on LGBTQIA2S+ youth, Black and Brown communities, immigrants, and people with uteruses should they win this year's presidential election, and RPC organizers feel that centering the lives, experiences, and voices of young people is of vital importance for this year's Queer Liberation March.

According to RPC Co-Founder, Jay W. Walker, "The decision to march from Sheridan Square and the Stonewall to The Battery was born of a desire to honor the history of Pride, cover a wide swath of Manhattan, and bring the energy of Queer Liberation to lower Manhattan. Importantly, the March will end in view of the Statue of Liberty, an enduring symbol of the ever-present need to continue striving toward the ideals of "Liberty and Justice For All" upon which the country has claimed to be founded, but has consistently failed to achieve."

By amplifying the voices of young people – particularly radical, progressive, abolitionist activist youth aligned with RPC's mission – the organizers believe that this year's march could not be held without acknowledging and taking a stand against the ongoing war and genocide in Gaza, as well as the many wars and genocides taking place around the world, including those in Congo; Manipur, India; Azerbaijan; Ukraine; and Zimbabwe. We stand in active support of the youth organizers of NYC’s Gaza Solidarity Encampments.

“We have all been in shock at the images and videos coming from Gaza and often we as Queers are used to justify violence done to people in other countries. For me marching for queer people means marching for all of humanity because to be queer is to be human. As a Bosnian war survivor who was queer and youth at the time, I cannot stay silent when I see others suffer what I have survived so the theme this year speaks to me on a very personal level and I am excited to march and shout both for our youth and against the horrors of genocide. I believe we can, with our united voices, change the world we live in,” says longtime RPC organizer, Jasmina Jz Sinanovic.

As the Reclaim Pride Coalition maintains a policy of refusing to accept any corporate contributions and does not have a paid staff, the Queer Liberation March encourages the support of New York’s LBGTQIA2s+ and TGNCNB communities – as Organizers, Event Volunteers, and Donors – in order to create a safe, welcoming event for all our March participants. RPC will host an in-person Marshal Training on May 18 as an opportunity for community members to gather and bring their talents, interests, and passions to the table and join the organizing team. <=================>

Reclaim Pride Coalition (RPC) is a New York City-based group of LGBTQIA2S+ activists in alliance with dozens of grassroots community groups, nationally and internationally. RPC’s primary work is organizing the Queer Liberation March. In June 2019, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, RPC mobilized more than 45,000 people to recreate the original 1970 Christopher Street Liberation Day March route uptown from Stonewall to Central Park. In 2020, under the darkness of the global pandemic, RPC held the Queer Liberation March for Black Lives and Against Police Brutality. The QLM is the annual people’s protest march without corporate funding; corporate floats; politicians’ grandstanding; or police control or involvement.
