RECLAIM PRIDE COALITION ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BUREAU OF GENERAL SERVICES QUEER DIVISION.

QUEER LIBERATION MARCH ORGANIZERS HOST ONLINE PANEL DISCUSSIONS FOCUSING ON LIBERATION TOPICS, AND SHARE MONTHLY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS.

ORGANIZING FOR JUNE 27TH QUEER LIBERATION MARCH CONTINUES.

New York City, April 14, 2021 — Organizers of the Reclaim Pride Coalition (RPC) have launched a partnership with the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division (the Bureau), an independent, all-volunteer queer cultural center, bookstore, and event space housed within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City. The historic collaboration between the two volunteer led organizations – both dedicated to uplifting the rights of LGBTQIA2S+ and all marginalized communities – begins with the launch of two projects:

  • A series of five virtual panel discussions is in the works, presented by Reclaim Pride Coalition and the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division in the weeks leading up to the Queer Liberation March on Sunday, June 27th, 2021. Topics will cover issues that are pressing for LGBTQIA2S+ people, with emphasis on the heightened urgency caused by a global pandemic and an utter lack of national (U.S.) leadership through the entirety of 2020.

    • On Thursday, April 15 – No Place to Call Home: Queer & Trans Houselessness, 2021, will be the first in this series of virtual panel discussions The panelists will include:  Kate Barnhart, Executive Director of New Alternatives for LGBT Homeless Youth; Reginald Brown, RPC Organizer and Vocal-NY Board Member; Jayden-Avery Love, Spiritual Consultant and Energy Reader; La'Kenya Tam, Founder/Executive Director Open Rainbow Residence, Inc.; and an organizer for Gays and Lesbians Living in a Transgender Society (G.L.I.T.S.)

    • COVID has had a disproportionate impact on folks experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. LGBTQIA2S+ youth of color have been hit especially hard. Greg Newton from the Bureau clarified, “In this panel, we’ll hear from folks who have experienced houselessness and members of organizations working to fill the gaps left by inequities in the system.” Topics include youth experiences, Trans health and safety, problems and limitations of the foster care system, connections to prisons and policing, the impacts of COVID and the vaccine, and what we all can do to work towards housing justice.

  • In conjunction with these events, the Bureau's online store now features a section devoted to titles recommended by Reclaim Pride Coalition members -click here to viewThese titles span generations of Queer and Trans voices speaking on a variety of issues: from identity and found families, to social justice, equity, and access; from queer histories and queer futures, to poetry, cozy space operas, and 1950s lesbian pulp. We seek to amplify marginalized voices and lesser known works and to raise consciousness within ourselves and our communities in the struggle towards Queer liberation. There will be a new selection of 10 books updated every month through the end of 2021.

The Bureau of General Services—Queer Division (The Bureau)  is an independent, all-volunteer queer cultural center, bookstore, and event space hosted by The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City. We aim to foster a community invested in the values of mindfulness, intellectual curiosity, justice, compassion, and playfulness. The Bureau seeks to excite and educate a self-confident, sex-positive, and supportive queer community by offering books, publications, and art and by hosting readings, performances, film screenings, book discussion groups, and workshops. We provide local and visiting queers and friends with an open and inclusive space for dialogue and socializing.

As of March 13, 2020, the Bureau has been temporarily closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. During this time, we invite you to order books for delivery and join our online events.

<=================>

Reclaim Pride Coalition (RPC) is a New York City-based group of LGBTQIA2S+ activists in alliance with dozens of grassroots community groups, nationally and internationally. RPC’s primary work is organizing the Queer Liberation March. In June 2019, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, RPC mobilized more than 45,000 people to recreate the original 1970 Christopher Street Liberation Day March route uptown from Stonewall to Central Park. In 2020, under the darkness of the global pandemic, RPC held the Queer Liberation March for Black Lives and Against Police Brutality. The QLM is the annual people’s protest march without corporate funding; corporate floats; politicians’ grandstanding; or police control or involvement.

We are: Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersexed, Asexual, Two(2)-Spirit plus Non-binary and Gender Non-conforming!
