Reclaim Pride March 27th Citywide Organizing Meeting - Report
On Wednesday,March 27, a large and lively crowd met at the Church of the Village to discuss updates for our June 30th Queer Liberation March and Rally, to hear from three powerful guest speakers about why an alternate Pride March is imperative, and to share how to get involved.
Among the many exciting takeaways of the evening, we announced important progress made for the March route and the rally in Central Park. Current plans under discussion with the Police Department and Park officials have us assembling in the morning at Sheridan Square. Our march would then head north on 7th Ave., east on 23rd St, and then north on 6th Ave. Those who cannot make the whole march would gather at or near Bryant Park and join the march as we head to our final destination at the Great Lawn in Central Park.
You can watch a video of the Wed meeting, or read the meeting minutes. We distributed handouts about Why We March and Ready to Jump Into the Work. You can also watch our three guest speakers:
International Issues — Micheal Ighodaro — Nigerian gay/AIDS activist
National issues — Brea Baker — NYC Women’s March and Justice League NYC
Local Issues — Kei Williams — queer transmasculine designer, writer, founding member of BLM NYC
Our volunteer form is here . We invite you to fill it out now to get more involved. You can also follow up directly with one of our six committees.
We had both print and video journalists at the meeting, and media coverage of our planning is positive.
